Things Always Seem To Have An Equal Balance...

Although I wrote many positive things about New Orleans on my previous post. There are also some disturbing aspects to that wonderful city. Including the fact that throughout the early and mid 90's and early 2000's and as recently as last year based on a report that was just released, New Orleans was crowned (not something to be proud of) the "murder capital of the world". It is the city with the most murders per capita in the country yet again. The city just needs to change its culture with this terrible trend. Now most murders occur in the projects which are essentially secluded from the rest of the city and many tourist or suburban murders are very rare, it is a terrible statistic. These acts are senseless.

Broadcasting Live From Planet NOLA...

For those of you that don't know it, NOLA stands for New Orleans Louisiana (LA being the abbreviation for Louisiana). If any of you were unaware (highly unlikely lol), this is the area where I grew up. I am here for the week and wanted to take a couple of minutes to talk about the city I love. New Orleans is known by many people for the city's various draws. I wanted to be an advocate for this wonderful city and go over some of the things that the millions of people that come and visit New Orleans experience. Excellent cuisine is one of the more well known reasons that tourists come visit New Orleans. Dishes such as jambalaya, gumbo, red beans and rice, po boys and a variety of other cajun, creole and seafood platters. There are renowned restaurants such as Commanders Palace, Brennan's, and Emeril's or you can sit along side the Mississippi River and have some delicious beignets at Cafe Du Monde any time day or night, the original location is open 24 hours. Of course, no visit to New Orleans would be complete without trying out a good crawfish meal, preferably going to a crawfish boil.

New Orleans is a very old historic city, having been part of both Spain and France before becoming part of the United States during the Louisiana Purchase. Because of this multi-cultural history many people enjoy the different style of architecture throughout the city. You can go visit the famous Oak Alley Plantation which you may have either heard of or seen in pictures as it is a famous photo op spot. The oldest active Catholic church (1720) in the United States, the Saint Louis Cathedral, is also located in New Orleans and brings devout Catholics throughout the country to the city. New Orleans cemeteries have above ground tombs, rather then burying the deceased because they city is below sea level and digging deep enough to bury someone would lead to hitting water. The city is known for swamp tours, voodoo, vampires, Jazz and Heritage Festival and several other interesting events. New Orleans is home to the NFL New Orleans Saints, who I frequently write about in my blogs, as well as the NBA's New Orleans Hornets.

Now we can't talk about New Orleans and not talk about Bourbon Street. It is in the part of the city called the French Quarter and thousands of people visit this area every year. It is a street lined with bars, strip clubs, hotels, and restaurants. People from all over the country come here all year round and enjoy the wild sights. Mardi Gras is the biggest draw to New Orleans and everyone should experience it at least once. The streets are lined with thousands tourists and there are daily parades all throughout the city in celebration for 2 straight weeks. This coming year Mardi Gras Day is February 24, 2009, so make arrangements. Ok, well there A LOT of other things I can explain about New Orleans but just wanted to cover the basics. There is no place like home.

Nancy Grace Is A Big Jerk...

As I sit here flipping through the channels looking for something informative to watch (in between watching such guilty pleasures as old Simpsons reruns and anything on ESPN) I stopped for a moment on CNN Headline News (not to be confused with the reg CNN channel which I actually enjoy), and I see news anchor Nancy Grace on her self titled news show. I can not remember a time when I have watched this woman for more then 5 seconds without her quickly reminding me why I can not stand her. She should have no place on television. She shows no professionalism or remorse towards any of her guests and uses Bill O'Reilly's tactics of insulting and trying to intimidate whoever she has on her program.

I don't understand why this woman remains on television. I am by no means what so ever even implying that she is not educated or anything of that nature. This is a woman who worked as Special Prosecutor for the DA's office in Fulton County, Georgia for high profile felony murder, rape, and drug cases. It was in this capacity that she was already showing her arrogance and high levels of improper behavior. At least 3 of her cases were brought to various appellate courts in response to ethical issues as a prosecutor.

The main arguments I have against her though are in relation to her actions on her television show. The more well known example is that of when Nancy was interviewing 21 year old mother Melinda Duckett, who was the mother of a missing child at the time of the interview. Melinda Duckett had not officially even been named as a person of interest, but Nancy Grace took it upon herself to bombard Melinda with a barrage of questions as to where she was the day her child went missing. Before the interview was over, the talk show host was pounding her desk and demanding, "Where were you? Why aren't you telling us where you were that day?" The following day Melinda Duckett committed suicide by shooting herself. Duckett's family filed a wrongful death suit in her defense. Yet Grace insists her line of questioning was reasonable.

Journalists should be unbiased in their views in order to present the news in the correct manner, yet Nancy Grace is narrow minded and quickly jumps to conclusions. In the 2006 Duke lacrosse scandal in which a female college student accused three Duke lacrosse players of rape, Nancy Grace repeatedly called the players "guilty". When Duke decided not to cancel the lacrosse season while the students were on trial (innocent until proven guilty right?? Not according to Nancy Grace) she stated on her show "I'm so glad they didn't miss a lacrosse game over a little thing like gang rape!". The three students were acquitted when it was later proven in court that the female student had fabricated the story. The day after the students were freed of charges, Nancy Grace had a "guest" host on her show and did not appear herself. The fill in host broke the news of the acquittal.

During the well documented Elizabeth Smart kidnapping, when the first suspect Richard Ricci was arrested by police on the basis that he had a criminal record and had worked on the Smarts' home, Nancy Grace spoke on Court TV and on Larry King that he was "guilty", and even stated several times that Ricci's girlfriend was also involved in the cover up of the crime. When the true criminals were captured (Brian David Mitchell and Wanda Barzee) it was disclosed that Richard Ricci had never had any contact with these individuals. Richard Ricci died while in confinement, a innocent man. Again Grace was proven incorrect (even though she is a news anchor and should not be making the judgement in the first place!) and yet her only response was to say that Ricci was "a known ex-con, a known felon, and brought suspicion on himself, so who could blame anyone for claiming he was the perpetrator?"

Lastly, the most despicable thing I can think of when I think or see Nancy Grace is how she supposedly came about going into the legal profession and eventually news television. The story she gives is that at the age of 19, her fiance was murdered by a random thug. She stated in the past that the murderer was finally caught and that once the trial was over that jury deliberations went on for several days, and then once the guilty verdict came in that a string of appeals ensued. She has also stated that she rejected the option of the death penalty because it was against her beliefs. This was what changed her life in her words, to go into law as a prosecutor. This is a very tragic story and a commendable means of inspiration to go into the legal field. Too bad Nancy Grace is such a conniving and disgusting person that she would even lie about this as well. The New York Observer did a investigative piece on that crime and this inconsistencies came up:
Her fiance was murdered by a known co-worker not a stranger
Deliberations went on for a couple of hours, not several days
The death penalty was asked for and rejected because the murderer was mildly retarded
The murderer never had an appeal; he filed a habeas application and it was denied
The killer had no prior convictions although when she recounts the story she calls him a previous felon
She has stated on a couple of occasions that the crime occurred in 1980 when it was actually 1979

Grace told the Observer she had not looked into the case in many years and "(tried) not to think about it". She said she made her previous statements about the case "with the knowledge I had." Even her ex fiance's brother has stated "“The reality of it is, the guy killed him. I know that. Our family knows that. There’s nothing we can do to bring him back. What she’s gonna say, she’s gonna say. I’m not gonna stop it. But if she doesn’t tell the truth, it’s gonna come out sooner or later.”

I know this was a VERY long post..but I can not stand this woman. Why is she on TV? Nancy Grace is a big jerk...

Wow, I Have Been Pretty Lucky...

I have sat at the country's first Starbucks with a hot cup of coffee and gone to the top of the Space Needle in Seattle. I have walked across the Golden Gate Bridge and eaten amazing Ethiopian, Indian, Thai, and Filipino food in San Francisco. I have walked on a rainy night along Baltimore's Inner Harbor. I have eaten a buffalo burger in Denver and I have walked through the snow in Boise. I have viewed wonderful art at Dallas' Museum of Art and have gone bar hoping on 6th Street in Austin. In Miami I have cruised 8th Street/Calle Ocho in Little Havana and walked down Ocean Blvd on South Beach. I have seen the original Declaration of Independence and Constitution, sat inside the Supreme Court, been inside our nation's capital building, and worshiped at the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC. I have visited John F. Kennedy's grave site and sat in awe of the Iwo Jima Memorial at the National Cemetery in Arlington, VA. I have gambled in the casinos in Las Vegas and Lake Tahoe. I have swam in the beaches of San Diego and beautiful Orange County. I have stood at Tieniman Square, visited the Temple of Heaven, and walked on the Great Wall in Beijing. I have taken a boat ride down the Yellow River and seen the amazing skyline at night in Shanghai. I have hiked up a volcano, taken a high speed boat ride, and met some great people in the Philippines. I have laid out on a hammock with friends on a peaceful beach in San Felipe and had a couple of crazy nights in Rosarito while in Mexico. I have visited family in my parents homeland of El Salvador. I have sat at a coffee shop with a good book in Portland. I have shopped in Buckhead while in Atlanta, and I have caught a professional baseball game in Houston. I did most of my growing up in life in Kenner, LA and walked down Bourbon Street with thousands of others in New Orleans. I have gone out with friends here in Southern California in Long Beach, Los Angeles, Hollywood and Pasadena. I have been in Phoenix and laid out by the pool in Scottsdale, AZ. I have played miniature golf in Biloxi/Gulfport, Mississippi and spent a week on the beach in Destin, FL. I have fired a rifle, thrown a grenade, and learned hand to hand combat in Oklahoma. I have toured the state capital and LSU stadium in Baton Rouge and played soccer in Mobile, Alabama. I live in Huntington Beach, CA. I have been able to share most of these experiences with many many good people. Wow, I really have been pretty lucky...

Mister Jurassic Park Passed Away...

Author Michael Crichton passed away today from a battle he had against cancer. He was a really good author and I really got into reading at an early age because of him. I read his books Andromeda Strain, The Great Train Robbery, Sphere, The Terminal Man, Congo, Jurassic Park, Lost World, and Rising Sun. (I really got into his books for a period of time lol) Anyway, lost an interesting and imaginative author today.

Californians Vote No On Prop 8 On Tuesday...

The California Supreme Court overturned the ban on gay marriage on 5/15/2008, yet the radical right continues to try and ban gay marriage once again. They have managed to put Proposition 8 on the ballot this Tuesday which would reverse the Supreme Court's decision and once again ban gay marriage. What right do they have to tell people who they can marry? Isn't this why we have the separation of church and state? The argument that the proponents of Prop 8 put out is that if the ban on gay marriage does not get passed, that it will force public schools to teach our children about gay marriage in class. This is complete fabrication, as the California State Superintendent of Public Instruction Jack O’Connell, has publicly stated that this is not the case. The California Public School System does not teach about marriage (straight or gay) and again this is an issue of separation of church and state.

If Proposition 8 gets passed, that will mean that the gay marriages that have been legal here in California since the state's Supreme Court decision will be revoked. This means the loss of basic civil rights to which ALL Americans should be entitled. This means loved ones unable to visit each other in hospitals where only immediate family is admitted. This means the inability to collect medical benefits from "spouses" employers. This means the inability to legally name a partner as a beneficiary for life insurance policies. Apart from this analysis has stated that it will result in a loss of revenue for the state of California, the state will lose out on money to be made on money spent on weddings expenses (which the sales tax would go to the state) as well as the loss of money coming in from an increased number of marriage licenses. What do all these issues do to disrupt peoples ability to either worship, or children's ability to receive a proper education in a public school? NOTHING!!!! It's about letting ALL citizens have equal rights, just as the FEDERAL Constitution states.

I am a straight male with a child and nothing has changed since the Supreme Court allowed gay marriage in May. My child goes to a California Public School and is not being taught about gay marriage. The idea that not banning gay marriage will destroy traditional marriage is absurd. If you are a straight couple, how will your life change? It will not, if your not gay, then don't marry someone that is! These are ideas to promote fear (which is the only thing supporters of Prop 8 can do). The California Teacher's Union and every major newspaper in California has come out against Proposition 8. This is about equality for ALL, and that's the bottom line.

So when you go out and vote this Tuesday, apart from putting Sen. Obama in office to get us out of this mess that the Republicans have put us in, remember to VOTE NO ON PROPOSITION 8!

Watch Sen.Obama On TV Tomorrow...

Make sure to watch Barack Obama give his "closing argument" tomorrow night. From what I hear it will be Sen. Obama as well as "validators" such as Warren Buffett or a Colin Powell who will give testimony on why Americans should vote for Obama. It should make for an entertaining and educational half hour of TV. Although I believe everyone should watch this tomorrow, I think it would be especially beneficial to any undecided voters. It should be on most major networks tomorrow, stay tuned. Obama 2008!

1 More Week...

Well we are finally one week away from Election Day. I hope everyone has either already voted (31 states currently have early voting with no reason needed to do so) or plans on voting this coming Tuesday. Very important day. Regardless of your views, go out and support your candidate. See you at the polls!

Thank You Ron Nehring...

I would like to commend Ron Nehring, who happens to be the California Republican Party Chairman, for addressing some of the issues I just happened to have written about in the recent past (concerns with the growing number of Republican statements, actions and/or demonstrations that were deemed racist). Not sure how many of you are aware of the story that broke earlier this week in California, although it is starting to make its way around the national media. A Republican women's group here in California known as, The Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated, in their October newsletter, which gets distributed to about 200 of its members and supporters in Southern California sent out what they called "Obama Bucks" which showed a picture of Obama depicted on a phony $10 bill surrounded by a watermelon, ribs and a bucket of fried chicken.

Chaffey President Diane Fedele insists that this move had "no racist intent". Are you kidding me? Her explanation goes on to state that she was merely making a point based on the what she believes are Sen. Obama's outrageous views on welfare. This reasoning has no relevance to the racist gesture she committed when she had the final approval of sending out the "Obama Bucks" to her constituents. I hate to bring attention to something so negative, racist and just all around ignorant, but the story does have a flip side. This is where California Republican Party Chairman Ron Nehring comes into play. He came out today and denounced the actions of the Chaffey group and stated "As political leaders, we must be absolutely clear that any material that attempts to make an issue of race or ethnicity has no place in our party or in our politics. No American should feel they are unwelcome in a political party because of their culture, religion, race or ethnicity."

Mr. Nehring is echoing what I stated in my earlier blog that these blatantly racist actions must be stopped and have no place in the world. If only Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin would do the same and make some kind of statement regarding the actions that are being displayed at their rallies.

LaDainian Tomlinson and Troy Polamalu on a collision course from when they were kids all the way to the big time...

Blatantly Racist McCain/Palin Supporters...

It's becoming a serious issue with the extremely racist supporters of Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin coming out and making completely ignorant, racist, and undeserving comments and/or demonstrations. I KNOW that not all supporters of the Republican ticket are racist or have any ties to these type of supporters, but it seems to be tolerated by the ticket and that is just as disturbing. Voters have been attending McCain/Palin speaking events and bringing monkey stuffed animals with Obama memorablia attatched to it (an overtly racist act), as well as yelling out things such as "terrorist" and "kill him" when John McCain has asked the question "Who is the real Barack Obama" (his new theme). I understand not agreeing with the other candidates views on the issues, but thats exactly where it should stop...the issues! This a completely sickening trend that continues to occur and not only does it need to end, the McCain campaign needs to condemn these acts and actions and not just smile and laugh as these things are being yelled out as he is speaking.

As for the beloved "Hocky Mom", the folksy governer did not get a warm reception from true hockey fans when she dropped the ceremonial "first puck" during the Philadelphia Flyers vs. New York Rangers game. The crowd gave her a spirted "boo" chant and she just gave out her trademarked fake smile and waved to the fans. The public announcement system had to be turned up with the music to try and subdue the overwhelming boo's. This has all been a result of the general public realizing the choice for Sen. McCain to choose her as his runningmate was undeserving and insulting to someone who truly believes in the views of the Republican party. The choice was nothing more then a publicity stunt and seems to be backfiring on the campaign. Many conservatives have even asked her to take her name off the ticket (which at this point is too late). Again...22 days left until the election...what choice are you making...

Only 22 Days Left Until We Change The Course Of The Country...

And it is a much needed change in course. We are 22 days away from the presidential election and I hope everyone was able to make sure they registered to vote (in California the deadline was Oct. 6). If you are still in the percentage of voters that is undecided, make sure you catch the final debate between the two candidates this coming Wednesday, Oct. 15 at 9pm E/6pm PST. Educate yourself and see firsthand what the fundamental differences in each candidates views are instead of assuming you know where they stand from hearsay. The first two debates have been informative and show an obvious distinction on the views of both candidates.

Saints Dominate Raiders In A 34-3 Win...

The superdome was erupting with sound at the beginning of the game, as 69, 7003 rowdy Saints fans cheered on the home team. My friend Jesse (avid Raiders fan) and I attended the game and it was a no contest. The Saints completely dominated the Raiders and won the game 34-3. As I stated in a previous blog, the wager my friend and I put on the game a couple of months ago was that the loser would have to buy the winner a jersey of their choice. So I will be receiving a new Marques Colston jersey. This, along with seeing the family, makes this a very good weekend for me. So this win, along with the game results of the other teams in our division, puts the Saints only one game behind the division leader. The Saints now have a 3-3 record and need to step it up and keep the momentum after this big win going. Up next: Saints vs. Panthers @ Carolina on Oct. 19.

This Should Be Interesting...

Well here it is.....The Vice Presidential debate is tonight. Sen. Joe Biden (D-Delaware) and Gov. Sarah Palin (R-Alaska). As I stated before, Gov. Palin has seemed (in the few times she would actually address the media) as if she was completely in over her head in accepting the Republican nomination of the Vice Presidency. We shall see what her views on the issues are tonight, and if they are anything like the erratic answers she has been giving on her limited interviews, then it should make for some good television/sound bites. Sen. Biden comes in with 27 years of senate experience but a reputation for sometimes being a bit too aggressive and from time to time putting his foot in his mouth. He just needs to attack McCain and not Palin (as this will give her sympathy votes/approval). We are only 33 days until we officially have a President Elect! I hope everyone (regardless for who you are voting) is registered so that they can partake in this year's election!

Saints Take Care Of 49ers 31-17...

Well, the Saints took care of business this past weekend and improved their record to 2-2 by beating the San Francisco 49ers 31-17. The defense really picked it up and had 6 sacks and 2 interceptions!! They need to use this momentum and take care of their next 2 games which are also in New Orleans (come on home crowd, make some noise!). Apart from the great pleasure I get from my team winning and getting out of that 2 game losing streak, it also satisfies me to know I won $30 from friends who thought the 49ers would win. Good times. Next up: Minnesota Vikings vs. New Orleans Saints in New Orleans on October 6, 2008 (Monday Night Football!!!).

Terrible Trend...

THIS is a terrible trend going around. Not sure if everyone has heard of it.

Of Course He Pulls This Crap...

So Sen. John McCain today announces that because of the crumbling economy (which I completely concur is in dire need of repair) he is going to return to Washington and put a temporary suspension on his presidential campaign. Apart from this, he wants to postpone the crucial and initial presidential debate that is scheduled to happen 2 days from now between himself and Sen. Obama until Oct. 2nd, which by mere coincidence (yeah right!) happens to be when the initial Vice Presidential debate is scheduled to occur. How convenient that he is recommending that his debate with Barack Obama be moved to that day, and that the debate between Gov. Palin and Sen. Biden be rescheduled for a later unspecified date. Gov. Palin has already made herself look bad with the Gibson interview and looked as if she did not know what she was talking about during tonight's interview with Katie Couric. This is what Sen. John McCain pulls while our nation is dealing with conditions that analysts are comparing to the Great Depression? I don't blame him for wanting to go to Washington (which he AND Sen. Obama are already doing tomorrow!) and helping this bailout plan to get approved with the correct provisions, but cancel the first debate? We are 40 days from the election and this is the time that the American public needs to clearly see what plan of action both of the candidates intend to take to help resolve this economic crisis and the differences in those plans. One of these two men will inherent this Bush administration bailout plan and we need to know what other insight they have to what they believe is the best course of action.

It appears Sen. McCain is more worried about political stunts, and the very scary reality that Gov. Palin will be seen soon during a live debate, where she does not have a pre-approved speech being prompted to her, and having to answer real world/real issue questions. If I am expected to multitask for my line of work, then don't you think the potential leader of the free world should be able to do the same? You don't suspend your campaign as a political stunt and you don't try and pull out of a debate that is so important to millions of Americans (not to mention undecided voters, I hope this helps open your eyes!), and you don't try to get the potential Vice President off center stage because you are afraid she will expose herself as the true inexperienced and under qualified candidate for the position she is. You don't do any of those things, you multi-task! Just as you would have to do if you, by some fluke, happen to get voted into office as President. This debate has been in the planning for a year and a half and the people of Oxford, MS (where the debate is to take place) and the rest of the American public expect you to hold up your end of the deal and show up and let us know your views as opposed to Sen. Obama's. It's odd to tell a true American Hero this, but John McCain.....You need to step up!

Legal Disclaimer...

I recently received some information while doing some military training about the rules and regulations for a military member officially supporting and/or endorsing a presidential candidate for this year's election. It is no secret that I support Barack Obama as the candidate. That being said, I have to state that I am supporting/endorsing him as an individual citizen who has the right to do so, and not as a uniformed member of the Armed Services. Actually as silly as it sounds I think it is actually more clear declaring that I support Barack Obama as a member of the Armed Services and Military Veteran, but that officially this does not reflect the views and/or expressions of the United States Military. The only reason I even bring this up is because this is a blog that is open to the public which anyone that chooses to visit the site may view. There have been stories of reporters and bloggers coming out with generic statements such as "top military official endorses candidate" because an enlisted soldier or sailor stated they supported a candidate. This sounds extremely over the top and I am aware of this, but just want to cover my bases.

Week 3: Saints 32 Broncos 34

Wow, what a disappointing loss this past Sunday. After seriously falling far behind early in the contest the Saints had a chance to go ahead, with about 1:57 left in the game, and missed a crucial field goal. The final score was 34-32 with the Broncos able to maintain the lead. This puts the Saints at a 1-2 record. The next 3 games are at home, so that is a positive to look forward to. Also approaching is the Oct. 12 game against the Raiders which I will be attending with a friend. Again, the bet between us is the loser buys the winner the jersey of their choice. Up next: 49ers vs. Saints on Sep. 28, 2008 at the Superdome. We seriously need this win!

Washington Redskins 29, New Orleans Saints 24...

Well...As I stated in my first football blog, I live and die with the ups and downs of the New Orleans Saints. Today was definitely a die/down day as they lost to the Washington Redskins 29-24. So the Saints are now 1-1 this season. I know it is early on, but we have to get the wins when they count and today was certainly within reach. Offense just couldn't get it going. Next up: Sep. 20, 2008 against the Denver Broncos in Denver.

How Many More Signs Are Needed?

As if the domestic economy taking a dump and world wide perception of the United States steadily declining was not enough of a reason to go a different route with this conflict, here are some more grim details of other effects the war in Iraq is creating. This is an extremely sad statistic because these are the young (and because of recalls and stop loss laws, sometimes not so young) men and women who serve in this great nation's military. Yet our current administration appears to blatantly not care; merely coasting to the end of their respective terms. This war is being fought with no positive outcome, public outrage rising, and this terrible toll that our servicemen and women are succumbing too. It's time to come up with a game plan, it's time for......change.

Football Season Is Upon Us...

So as stated on my initial post I am a self described "sports junkie", and at no time is it more evident then during football season. I live and die along with the ups and downs of my team, the New Orleans Saints. Admittedly, historically they have not been a team that has fared well and were known, and I use this word extremely loosely, lovingly, by fans as the Aint's for many years, they are my team. Luckily the past few seasons they have done well, getting one game away from the Super Bowl in 2006, and erasing the era of when fans would wear brown paper grocery bags over their heads with the eyes and mouth cut out and AINTS written across the forehead in black lol. In recent history they have also been a symbol of recovery and hope for the city of New Orleans, following the tragedy that was Hurricane Katrina, which left the city of New Orleans in disarray.

Anyway football season started this past week, and the Saints opened up the season with a 24-20 victory over their division rivals Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Great way to start the season! Up next are the Washington Redskins this coming Sunday, September 14. The game is at Washington and the Saints need to establish themselves this season as a team that can get it done on the road as well as at home.

I'll be going to the Raiders vs. Saints game in New Orleans on Oct 12, 2008. I can't wait. One of my good friends who is a die hard Raiders fan bought the tickets for us, so I will be flying out to New Orleans for that game. We do have a wager going on as well between the two of us. The loser must buy the winner a jersey of their choosing!!! So that's roughly a $69 plus tax wager. (That's replica jersey, because an authentic jersey is about $200, and NOT going to bet that on a regular season game). So needless to say, important game! I'll keep you posted on how the Saints and my wager are looking.

Speaking of wagers, if you are are interested in online sports betting this is a site I like to....um....glance at once in awhile. Not trying to encourage gambling, but its a good site. Last year some laws were put in place by the current administration (haha..here come the politics again) that makes it harder to bet on sports online, but this one is legit and legal in all states. Good luck with your bets.

The Way The Military Donates...

So here is an interesting article on how active duty military members actually donate money in the respect of political donations to our presidential candidates. This should open the eyes of anyone who thinks we should stay the course or people who are in defiance of some sort of timeline for military withdrawal in Iraq, and still believe they are "supporting our troops". Although I have the utmost respect for Senator John McCain in regards to his military service and how he dealt with the atrocities he had to endure while a prisoner of war in Vietnam, he is apparently out of touch with the sentiments of our active duty military service members. They are the ones that are having to deal with multiple deployment rotations, inadequate funding for supplies, and politicians that continue to slash veteran benefits (including Senator McCain).

And Here We Go.....

Well here it goes. I feel like I have way to many things floating around in my mind so I've decided to begin blogging. Not very original I know, but I think it will serve the purpose of self therapy, meaning it will do me some good to get all my thoughts off my chest at the end of the day, and hopefully it will also be informative and entertaining to whoever out there takes the time out to stop by and view it. That being said, I'm staying positive and seeing it as a win-win.

Lately what has been on my mind has been mainly politically motivated. We are at a point in our country's history where we are at a crossroads and the nation could literally go in either of two completely different directions depending on the outcome of this election. This is why I think we should all get involved in some sort of politics, and it doesn't matter whether that be volunteering, organizing, attending events, donating money, or just watching the news and going out to vote in November. This is also regardless of your beliefs or political party; if you believe in it, stand up for it! I definitely lean to the democratic side, but that does not mean that I am closed minded and won't listen to the "other" side. I think this is the charactaristic that many people are lacking.

As I stated above, when I first got the idea of starting the blog, it was politically motivated. After some thought, I decided that is not the route I will take. Although it will definitely have ALOT of political posts, videos, links, etc...my interests stretch far beyond politics (which honestly can be too much sometimes lol). I am a HUGE sports junkie and with the baseball playoffs coming up, both professional and college football starting up, and basketball season around the corner, there will be much sports talk on here as well. Apart from this I can already see random thoughts being jotted down, funny videos, and silly things of that nature making itself past the cutting room floor and getting posted.

So thank you for taking the time to read this initial blog, and first of many, and I hope that this entertains, informs, stimulates, angers and/or energizes you in some way, shape or form as much as it will help me clear my mind. Remember....I'm still telling my self its a win-win.
